We are happy to announce that two volumes of Janusz Korczak’s How to Love a Child and Other Selected Works have been published and can be ordered at a discounted price from the Valentine Mitchell Publishers (Volume 1 and Volume 2).
This two-volume translation of Selected Works of Janusz Korczak, which is of fundamental importance to the dissemination of Dr Korczak’s legacy, is now accessible to English-speaking audiences. The translation was a monumental undertaking that would not have been possible without the many people and organizations who have contributed to this effort. We would like to thank them all.
On behalf of the Janusz Korczak Association of Canada we would like to thank the Paul and Edwina Heller Memorial Foundation for the visionary support and generosity towards this project. Without the kindness and understanding of its trustees the translation efforts could not have commenced.
We are grateful to the Polish Book Institute, whose encouragement has inspired us to overcome the many challenges that arose along the way, and whose generosity supported the translation costs.
The Adam Mickiewicz Institute, whose mission is to promote and communicate Polish culture abroad, also generously supported this project.
We would like to acknowledge the long-standing support of Rabbi Dr Yosef Wosk and the generous grant from the Koret Foundation.
The Janusz Korczak Association of Canada also wishes to express its deep gratitude to a large number of people who supported the publication of this translation. We would like to thank Dr Olga Medvedeva-Nathoo, a member of the Janusz Korczak Association of Canada and the author of this selection and Ms Marta Ciesielska, the director of the Korczakianum Center for Documentation and Research at the Museum of Warsaw, who generously shared their expertise and vast knowledge at every stage of the project. We also want to express our deep appreciation to Antonia Lloyd-Jones for her dedication and invaluable help in selecting the translators.
We thank Mr. Toby Harris, of Vallentine Mitchell publishers, for his guidance navigating the requirements of the publishing world. Ms Anna Maria Czernow was invaluable in coordinating the project and collecting and editing the translations. Our thanks go out to all the translators for their dedicated and timely efforts: Sean Bye, Danuta Borchardt, Marta Dziurosz, Alissa Leigh-Valles, Benjamin Paloff, Julia Sherwood and Anna Zaranko.
This was truly a community undertaking and we are profoundly grateful for the many contributions that made this translation a reality.
