Jamie Horne Receives the 2025 Janusz Korczak Award for Distinguished Social Work Practice Protecting the Rights of Children

The Janusz Korczak Association of Canada, in partnership with the British Columbia Association of Social Workers (BCASW), is pleased to recognize Jamie Horne as the recipient of the 2025 Janusz Korczak Award for Distinguished Social Work Practice Protecting the Rights of Children. The award honours social workers whose professional practice reflects an exceptional commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of children and young people.

Jamie Horne, BSW, is a Guardianship Social Worker with the British Columbia Ministry of Children and Family Development in Kamloops, British Columbia. She has spent her career advocating for children and youth involved in the child welfare system, with a strong commitment to children’s rights, trauma-informed practice, and meaningful relationships. Jamie earned her Bachelor of Social Work from Thompson Rivers University in 2010 and is currently completing her Master of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University.

Selected by the BCASW Awards Committee, Jamie Horne is recognized for distinguished contributions to social work practice and for demonstrating the values that guided the life and work of Dr. Janusz Korczak—respect for every child, unwavering advocacy for children’s rights, and a belief that every child deserves to be heard, protected, and treated with dignity.
