A special recognition is also required to emphasize the dedication and hard work of Dr. Anton Grunfeld for his invaluable efforts as the coordinator of our publishing endeavors, which have been instrumental in these achievements.
Here is the nomination letter from the University
Dear Jerry Nussbaum of the Janusz Korczak Association of Canada,
I have the great pleasure of communicating to you the decision of the Award Chapter of our University Senate from 20.01.2024.
The Maria Grzegorzewska University awarded you as the representant of the Janusz Korczak Association of Canada in recognition of supporting the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 4, 5 and 10 and especially for the preservation and promotion of Janusz Korczak heritage, through digitalization and translation into English.
Using this opportunity, I would like to explain that the UNESCO Janusz Korczak Chair in Social Pedagogy is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and the occasion is marked with a special recognition award, the UNESCO Janusz Korczak Chair Medal for individuals and institutions most involved with human rights, children’s rights and education for peace initiatives run by the Chair. We focus especially on SDGs 4,5 and 10 in people’s contributions to build a better world. The award is established and granted by the Senate of our university just once – this year 2024.
To draw more context, I add, although you know already that Doctor Korczak was indeed our employee before the Second World War and left a significant mark on our mission and our educational philosophy.
We are hopeful that you will accept the medal during the International Conference in Warsaw 19-20.09.2024 or at the General Assembly of IKA on 21.09 depending on your availability.
With warm regards and many congratulations,
Anna Odrowaz-Coates
